Malampuzha Dam,Kerala

Malampuzha Dam
                       


          Malampuzha Dam is one of the largest reservoir in the State of Kerala ( south India ). This dam is located in Palakad district. Where there is scenic hills of the Western ghats in the background. This dam has a length of 1,849 metres and an earthen dam with a length of 220 metres. The dam is 6,066 feet high and crosses River Malampuzha which is a tributary of Bharathappuzha. Bharathappuzha river is the  Kerala's second longest river.
          This dam is located 10 km away from Palakkad town of  North Kerala. Some other sights in this  area are : Dam, amusement park, boating facilities, rock garden and ropeway.
                                   

          The dam project was started  in 1949 and came to an end of construction  in 1955. The total area of this dam  is 145 square kilometers and the reservoir has a capacity of 8000 sq meters of water. This dam provides water for irrigation and for drinking purpose in surrounding villages of Palakad district.
